HORIZON LINES TO DEPLOY 250 NEW FLAT RACKS AND
250 NEW REFRIGERATED SHIPPING CONTAINERS IN ALASKA
TACOMA, WA, May 16, 2012 – Horizon Lines, Inc. (OTCQB: HRZL), one of the nation's leading domestic ocean shipping companies, today announced it is deploying 250 new high-posted flat racks and 250 new state-of-the-art refrigerated containers in the Alaska tradelane. The new equipment arrived at the Port of Tacoma last week. (Photos available upon request.)
“The new flat racks are lighter and complete with securing straps to meet the rugged loading requirements of the Alaska trade,” said Marion Davis, Vice President and General Manager, Alaska. “Together with our new refrigerated containers, we are greatly increasing equipment availability for our high-value perishable and project cargo customers this summer.”
The new flat racks are being deployed by Horizon Lines just in time for the Alaska construction season. The new refrigerated containers include enhanced insulation and stronger floors for better operating efficiency and durability. Each container is equipped with a new style of door lock seal, and the cooling unit itself is bolted into place with a wire-seal to detect unauthorized access. These advancements make the containers more secure to handle high-value perishable inventory.
